How To Install Android 4.4.2 KitKat OmniROM on Huawei Ascend P1

The Huawei Ascend P1 is pretty slim smartphone with some decent features. But there is a very bad point with this phone. The Ascend P1 is not capable for Android’s KitKat officially and you are away from latest luxurious. It is old and Huawei has not mentioned it on KitKat devices yet. We admit this fact but not unofficially.

The Kitkta OmniROM is not a different term. It is another option to taste latest Android goodies on your Huawei Ascend P1. It is flexible and you make a lot customization with it. It is important to note that this is unofficial build, it is currently in development stages and you can experience some issues like Bluetooth is not working. However it is pretty good Ascend P1 KitKat build for daily drive.

This guide shows you how to update Huawei Ascend P1 on Android 4.4.2 KitKat with this unofficial OmniROM build.

Requirements

1. Make sure you have a custom recovery installed on your phone (Note: You must be running on latest version of recovery of CWM or TWRP).
2. Make a backup of your device’s data as the below procedure can wipe everything
3. Download Huawei Ascend P1 KitKat Omni ROM from here
4. Download this KitKat Google Apps package.

How To Install OmniROM on Huawei Ascend P1

Step #1: Copy both download files to root of your SD card not in any folder.

Step #2: Turn off your Huawei Ascend P1.

Step #3: Boot phone in recovery mode, to do this reboot phone by holding down volume down, and power buttons. You should prompted with fastboot mode, there use volume keys to navigate and power key to select menus, here simply select recovery option from fastboot mode to enter in recovery mode.

Step #4: Take nandroid backup of your current firmware as if you mess up anything wrongly, you will be able to go back to previous position with this backup. If you are using ClockworkMod recovery, navigate to Backup and Restore>Backup. If you are on TeamWin’s TWRP recovery, navigate to Backup option, there tick all of boxes and then swipe to confirm backup.

Step #5: Perform a wipe now. TWRP users need to tap on “Wipe” first, and then swipe to “Swipe to factory reset”. Once it’s finished, tap on “Wipe” again, there go to Advanced Wipe>System and then swipe to confirm action. If you are using CWM, select Wipe data/Factory reset first and confirm the action, then navigate to “mount and storage”, there select “format/system” and say yes to confirm the action. Then perform other wipes, Cache and Dalvik.

Step #6: Select “Install” or “Install Zip”, select the ROM zip package and confirm installation.

Step #7: Repeat the previous step again but this time install Google Apps package.

Step #8: Select “reboot system now” or “reboot” to restart your Huawei Ascend P1 (Note: The first boot may take time up to 10 minutes).
